Private Lessons

With private lessons, students can have individualized instruction that suits their schedule in a variety of media, styles, and skill levels.

Check out some of the subjects we teach below or click on the button for new student registration.

Sketching and Drawing

Media: pencil, charcoal, graphite, pen/ink, chalk, pastel

Sketching is the most basic skill in an artist’s toolkit, but also one of the most important and, often, very intimidating to new students.

Lessons in sketching and drawing cover:

How to translate what you see onto paper
Rendering light and shadow
Figure drawing & anatomy
Portraiture & facial proportions

Traditional Painting

Media: watercolor and acrylic. We can also teach oil, but there are venue restrictions.

Students usually progress to watercolor, acrylic, and oil painting after acquiring some basic drawing skills. Painting lessons concentrate on color theory: how colors mix with each other and react to light and shadow.

Please note that traditional painting lessons require a minimum of 2 hours per session because a lot of work and learning goes into preparing the paints and other materials.

Painting classes cover skills like:

Watercolor, acrylic, and oil basics
Mixing paints and color theory
Brushwork technique

Anime and Manga

Media: pencil, pen/ink, copic markers, watercolor, digital

Japanese anime and manga has become a very popular form of art, but what many people don’t know is that good anime artwork requires a thorough understanding of realistic anatomy and perspective.

Covers subjects such as:

Line quality and characteristics
Real human anatomy and its relationship with stylized anatomy
Proportions and norms of different styles within anime
