Billing Policy and Lesson Fees

We offer two ways of paying for lessons: students can choose between our Automatic Billing Program or purchasing lesson packages. Please see details on each option below.

We use Paypal to handle all of our billing, so your information is kept only in their secure servers. You are also covered under their Buyer Protection Agreement. Click here to see their complete security policy.

Automatic Billing Plan

Automatic Billing is our simple, pay-as-you-go plan. Here's how it works: you enroll via Paypal using either your Paypal account or a credit card, and, at the end of each month, you're automatically billed for the lessons you took during that month. There is a billing limit of $600.00 USD for your protection, meaning your account can only be billed for a maximum of $600 per month. If you plan on taking more than 10 lesson hours for any given month, you will need to pay for the additional classes separately.

Lessons for students on the Automatic Billing Plan are billed at a rate of $60/hour for office lessons.

Prepaid Lesson Packages

If you would like to prepay for your lessons, we offer lesson packages at the following increments.

4 Hour Package $260* ($65/hr)
8 Hour Package $480* ($60/hr)
12 Hour Package $660* ($55/hr)

Additional Students

Additional students for private lessons are just an extra $10/hr, making it easy to take lessons together with friends or family members. Maximum of 3 additional students.

Rescheduling and Cancellation

We have a 2 day (48 hr) cancellation policy, so please contact the instructor at least 2 days in advance if you need to reschedule or cancel a lesson. After the first instance, you will be charged for lessons rescheduled or cancelled within 2 days of the lesson.

I can’t draw at ALL. Is it really possible to learn?

Believe it or not, there honestly is no such thing as natural artistic talent. I have not met a single “talented” artist who didn’t put in his or her 10,000 hours of practice. It really, really is possible to learn.

Where are the lessons taught?

Lessons meet at our office located in the River Oaks Shopping Center at 1964 West Gray St. Suite #202, Houston, Tx 77019 (See directions here).

How much do lessons cost?

Hourly rates vary between $55-$65, depending on billing plan/package. See details under the two payment options here.

What about small group lessons?

The fee for additional students is $10/hour extra for each additional student, so it's very easy to take lessons with friends or family. There is a limit of 4 students total per group.

If I buy a lesson package, how long will I have to use my lesson hours?

Prepaid lesson packages don't expire, though it is a good idea to take lessons regularly to really see improvements.

What is the registration process?

1. Complete the registration form. If you have pictures of your work, email a few to Amy@HoustonArtLessons.com to give us a better idea of your skills.

2. We will review the information and contact you within 2 business days to match you with one of our instructors and get you set up for your preferred billing method.

3. The assigned instructor will contact you lesson plans and scheduling your first lesson.

How is payment handled? What forms of payment do you accept?

You can either sign up for our pay-as-you-go Automatic Billing Plan or purchase prepaid lesson packages.

We accept Paypal, VISA, MC, AMEX, and DISC.

Please note that our instructors cannot accept payment for lessons in person (neither cash nor check).

(See details above)

Do materials cost extra for lessons?

No, the studio is stocked with basic drawing and painting supplies, and we can give you recommendations on where to find supplies for specific projects or practie at home.

How long is each lesson?

You decide on the duration of lessons. The minimum for drawing lessons is 1 hour per session. The minimum for painting lessons is 2 hours per session. Painting is a slower process and requires a bit more prep work.

Are these lessons for adults or children?

Both. Students of different ages learn art skills in very similar and intuitive ways, so our lessons fit children and adults easily with some minor adjustments. Hey, you can even take the lessons with your kids!

What kind of qualifications do your instructors have?

Many of our instructors have bachelor’s degrees in fine arts. More importantly, however, all of our instructors have extensive portfolios demonstrating exquisite technical mastery of the subjects they teach. Additionally, they also have years of experience in classroom or private instruction and go through a thorough training process when they join our staff.

I’m interested in being an instructor, how do I apply?

Go to the "About us" page and follow the instructions there.

Will you donate to our nonprofit?

Currently, we do not make cash donations, but if your school or non-profit would be interested in class vouchers, feel free to send us an email inquiry. (Amy@houstonartlessons.com)
